Fáilte roimh chinneadh an Aire Oideachais
Fáiltíonn Gael Linn roimh chinneadh an Aire Bruton
Cuireann Gael Linn fáilte roimh an chinneadh atá fógartha ag an Aire Oideachais Richard Bruton go mbeidh ardú le teacht ar an bhunghrád a theastaíonn i scrúdú Gaeilge na hArdteiste chun áit a fháil i gcoláiste oideachais do chúrsa sa bhunmhúinteoirí. Ó Mhéan Fómhair 2018 ar aghaidh, beidh grád H4 (60-70 %), sa Ghaeilge ardleibhéal de dhíth chun áit a fháil sna coláistí oideachais mar ábhar oidí.
Bhí Gael Linn an mhí-shásta leis an íosriachtanas nua a tháinig i bhfeidhm sa chóras iontrála do na coláistí oideachais i mí Mheán Fómhair na bliana seo, córas a d’fhág gur leor grád H5, nó D1 sa Ghaeilge. Sular athraíodh an córas marcála, theastaigh ar a laghad 55% (nó C3) i scrúdú Gaeilge na hArdteiste ó dhaltaí ar mhaith leo céim sa bhunmhúinteoireacht a dhéanamh.
Is cuid lárnach é an córas oideachais maidir leis an aidhm náisiúnta an Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn. Chun go mbeidh rath uirthi, is den riachtanas go mbeadh cumas dóthaineach sa Ghaeilge ag oidí. An chéad chéim chuige sin na leibhéal cuí sa Ghaeilge a éileamh mar choinníoll iontrála sna coláistí oideachais. Tréaslaíonn Gael Linn an cinneadh seo leis an Aire agus beidh súil againn le tuilleadh beartas tacaíochta do mhúineadh na Gaeilge go luath amach anseo.

Gael Linn welcomes Minister’s Decision
Gael Linn welcomes the decision announced by Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton, to raise the minimum requirement in Irish at Leaving Certificate for students entering colleges of education. From September 2018 a H4 grade (60 – 70 %) in Irish will be required in order to secure a place in teacher training for primary schools.
Gael Linn was disappointed that the minimum requirement had been reduced. This had only come into effect this September and meant that a H5 grade or D1 in Irish would be enough to gain entry to train as a primary teacher. Prior to this at least a C3 or 55% in Irish at Leaving Certificate was necessary.
The education system is central to realising the national goal of promoting the Irish language. In order to achieve this goal it is essential to insist on an appropriate level of competence in the Irish language from applicants to institutions offering primary level teacher training.
