Tráth na gCeist Gael Linn aims to provide students of Irish in Northern Ireland the opportunity to hear the language being spoken outside the classroom at an informal and lighthearted event and to support the Irish teachers in their endeavours.
ORGANISATION OF EVENTS
Events are organised at different venues throughout Northern Ireland. Each event is for teams of four. There are 6 rounds of questions with 8 questions in each round and team members may confer. After the quiz a céilí or concert is organised for the students.
CONTESTANTS
Tráth na gCeist is open to teams of four from junior level classes in postprimary schools in Northern Ireland. There is no limit to the number of teams a school may enter. The junior section is aimed primarily at students of Year 10 although Year 8 and Year 9 students are also allowed take part. There is no competition for senior students.
PRIZES
Prizes are presented to the top three teams from both secondary and grammar schools at each venue.
